I've found that this life-long tango with insomnia is like a hot poker for advice-givers. I've listened politely to instructions on warm milk, hot baths, lavender scented oils, exercise in the morning, exercise in the afternoon, and the list goes on. I assure you, I have tried them all- sometimes all at once-to no avail. I am still awake typing a blog post at 5:45 in the morning, when most people should be waking up from a full night's sleep.
I am not nervous, restless, pre-occupied, caffeinated, or consumed. Just, sleepless and left wondering if there is even a remote chance of this condition rectifying itself. Have you ever tried to run after applying lavender oils, warm milk in hand? There must be a better way.

Since a lot of my clients suffer from insomnia, I have a "program" that I put them through that involves resetting your body-clock. First, I have them note about how much sleep they are actually getting a night. So if it is 4 hours, I will then start them off by only allowing them 4 hours of sleep a night. So, from 1am to 5am is the only time they can sleep. After two weeks or so, we gradually expand in half- to full-hour increments, until the client is sleeping approx 7 hours a night. We then level off there for a month or two and see if this is enough sleep, and crunch it back down again if the insomnia rears its head. This is standard procedure for treating insomnia among doctors and psychologists, and has been very successful for many of my clients. Have you sought help from a sleep expert/psychologist for this? You shouldn't have to suffer!
p.s...I don't mean to be another one of those advice-givers :) It's just that insomnia is treatable, and I hate to see anyone suffer from it...
